The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is a long running tradition that is one of the largest single-event fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To date, more than 450 homes have been given away and the program has raised almost 400 million dollars to save the lives of children with cancer and other deadly diseases at St. Jude.

Unlike other hospitals, the majority of the funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. The daily operating cost of St. Jude is $2.2 million. Approximately 75% of the costs of St. Jude are covered by public contributions through an incredible network of fundraising and outreach efforts.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers, and treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago.St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent in the next decade.

This year the 2019 St.  Jude Dream home was built by Bluffton, S.C. based homebuilder, Village Park Homes, in Rice Hope Planation in Port Wentworth, GA.

Village Park Homes, along with numerous local and national sponsors who generously donated their time, materials and talent, worked together to raise $675, 000 in the 2019 Dream Home Campaign. Combined with the 2018 St. Jude Dream Home also built by Village Park Homes,  a cumulative 1.3 Million dollars  has been raised  in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Leslie Ehlers, Marketing Director for Village Park Homes, says, “The construction of the dream home would not be possible without the support of the community and the incredible generosity of local and national sponsors including Bosch™, Brizo™, Trane™ and Shaw Floor™ and the stunning interior design and staging services by the team at Timeless Interiors. A special thank you to the ladies of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a longtime partner with St. Jude and wonderful women who donate countless hours to the campaign fundraising efforts. It truly takes a village and everyone does their part for these amazing kids.”

Gregory Proffit of Savannah was the winner of the 2019 St. Jude Dream home and he says: “This is awesome. Let’s face it. The whole reason for this house being put up is so many people wanna help St. Jude. Proffit says winning this home is extremely meaningful. “I’m fired up I’m excited! I think it’s awesome! I’m so glad I got the call. St. Jude was perfect for me when I first came up in the business world and started making more than I was spending. St. Jude was one of the first places I started looking to share my resources,” said Proffit.

He tells News 3 he has a message to those who dedicate their time and talent to the campaign. “To the people who organize these things and keep this program going, I don’t have a hat on otherwise I’d tip my hat to you. They do the job day in and day out,” said Proffit.
