Bluffton may be a retiring coastal village, but in the Lowcountry, it is known for its warmth, charm, and view of the May River.
Bluffton is also an established resort destination. Residents and visitors spend hours on the waterways to fish, swim, kayak, paddleboard, and other activities. During the summer season there are at least 20 activities each day including performing arts shows, concerts, happy hours, wildlife tours, kids camps, and water sports programs.
Lowcountry author, Pat Conroy, writes, “I love the marsh. I don’t know of any place that smells like this. It’s a magnificent smell. It’s the smell of where all life comes from. I love that all shrimp, all crab, all oysters are born in the marsh”.
With its events and maintenance of historic landmarks, Bluffton’s residents and visitors respectively maintain and enhance its beauty year round. Events include the Bluffton Village Festival, the Christmas Parade, the Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival, Shag and Drag, and May River Cleanup. Also, Bluffton is represented by its historical Church of the Cross, Society of Bluffton Artists, and May River Theatre.
Old Town Bluffton offers a safe and steady environment with ice cream trucks, bike riding, and other small town activities. Safewise reports Bluffton as one of the top 10 safest cities in South Carolina. That being said, it’s no surprise that many choose to make Bluffton their home.
A 2017 report showed there to be roughly 19,000 citizens in town and the cost of living index was reported at 109.10. In addition, there are other reasons many choose to live in Bluffton. There are thirteen schools in this district as well as two colleges, the University of South Carolina Beaufort and the Technical College of the Lowcountry. Also, the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy is housed here in Bluffton.
With thriving new businesses, it would be a shame to leave Bluffton without trying freshly brewed beer. The local breweries include the Southern Barrel Brewing Co., Salt Marsh Brewing Company, and the River Dog Brewing Co.
As a small town embodying all that is the Lowcountry, with salt-water breeze, sandy beaches, and clean waterways, Bluffton is the perfect place to put your mind at rest. Start your beautiful life in this beautiful environment.
